How to use Molten Decent Sampler Instruments

Instruments

All of my sample libraries are designed and built around the free Decent Sampler plugin from Decent Samples. This brilliant plug and library format has enabled me to put together some fabulous little instruments based on the gear I have the privilege to use. Hopefully, over time, this will build up into a useful resource and source of sounds for your own projects and enjoyment.

This is early days and may not be an entirely polished experience, so please let me know if you encounter any difficulties. However, here is how you get your Molten Instrument working.

  1. Download the Molten Instrument library via the link you’ve been sent.
Molten Instruments are available through Patreon.
  2. Extract the zip file contents to somewhere helpful on your computer.
The zip file contains the presets and all the samples.
  3. Download the latest version of Decent Sampler from the Decent Samples website.

The “Full Installer” version is the easiest as it will automatically install the plugin and standalone versions.
  4. And then install it and run it. You should get a nice vanilla version up, like this.

  • The interface will typically give you a filter envelope, amp envelope, lowpass filter with resonance, delay, chorus and reverb effects.
  • The cutoff is controllable from a Mod wheel on your keyboard.
  • All parameters can be MIDI controlled by right-clicking a knob and selecting “MIDI Learn”.
  • Some instruments will come with filtering, modulation and effects in the samples.
  1. If you’d like to save your own presets go to “File – Developer Tools – Save Preset”.

That’s really all you need to know about installing and playing your Molten Instruments.

Decent Sampler is an open format and you are very welcome to use the code in my presets to develop your own instruments. I spent a lot of time recording the samples and building the interface so while you are welcome to use them in your own projects I would appreciate it if you didn’t share them or give them away.

More to come – have fun!
